Taurasi DOCG, nicknamed "the Barolo of the South," is one of Italy's most prestigious red wines, produced from Aglianico grapes in the heart of Irpinia. The production area extends across the hills of Taurasi and neighboring municipalities, at altitudes between 300 and 600 meters.
Aglianico is an ancient varietal, brought by the Greeks in the 7th century B.C. Taurasi requires a minimum maturation of three years, with at least one year aging in wooden barrels. The Riserva designation requires four years of aging.
In the glass, it presents an intense ruby red color with garnet reflections. On the nose, it offers notes of ripe red fruits, spices, tobacco, and leather. On the palate, it is powerful and tannic, with great structure and extraordinary length. It is a wine for contemplation, perfect paired with red meats, game, and aged cheeses.
