Friulano (formerly known as Tocai Friulano until 2007) is the iconic white wine of Friuli Venezia Giulia, produced in the Collio Goriziano and Colli Orientali del Friuli regions. After a lengthy dispute with Hungary over the name "Tokaj", the wine was renamed "Friulano".
With its pale straw yellow color and greenish hints, it offers an elegant bouquet of wildflowers, almond, and hay on the nose. On the palate, it is dry and savory, with a characteristic almond note in the finish that makes it unmistakable.
It is the quintessential wine of the Friulian osteria, perfect paired with prosciutto di San Daniele, frico, and Adriatic seafood dishes.
