Marrone di Roccadaspide IGP is a prized chestnut cultivated on the hills of Cilento, featuring a medium-to-large size, rounded shape, and delicately sweet flavor. The cultivation of chestnut trees in Cilento dates back to the Norman era.
Harvesting takes place between October and November in the chestnut groves of the hills between 300 and 800 meters in elevation. The marrone stands out for its easy-to-peel skin and compact flesh, making it ideal for confectionery preparations.
It is the star of numerous autumn festivals throughout Cilento and is used to produce chestnut flour, jams, and traditional pastries.
