The Pomodoro San Marzano dell'Agro Sarnese-Nocerino DOP is the undisputed king of peeled tomatoes, an essential foundation of authentic Neapolitan pizza and Sunday ragù. With its elongated shape, meaty flesh, few seeds, and low acidity, it thrives in the foothills of Mount Vesuvius and throughout the Agro Sarnese-Nocerino region.
Cultivation follows strict regulations: plants grown in open fields using the traditional "filare" method, hand-harvested between July and September, and processed within hours of picking. Only certified plants of the San Marzano 2 variety can bear the DOP designation.
This tomato has conquered the world through Neapolitan pizza, but it stars in countless recipes: from eggplant parmigiana to baked pasta, from Sorrentine gnocchi to homemade preserves that Campanian families still prepare every summer.
