The Gianduiotto is Turin's iconic chocolate, born in 1865 from the brilliant idea of combining cocoa with the delicate round hazelnuts from Langhe. Its distinctive upturned boat shape is instantly recognizable, as is its velvety and enveloping taste.
Invented by the historic Caffarel chocolate shop, the Gianduiotto takes its name from Gianduja, Turin's carnival mask. The original recipe requires a minimum proportion of 30% Piemonte IGP hazelnut paste.
Turin is Italy's chocolate capital: every year it hosts CioccolaTò, the major event dedicated to cacao, and its historic chocolate shops produce Gianduiotti according to jealously guarded recipes.
