Amarelli
Among the oldest family businesses in Italy: the Amarelli family, with documented origins dating back to the 11th century, has been trading liquorice roots since the sixteenth century and in 1731 founded the 'concio' in Rossano (CS), a pre-industrial plant for juice extraction. For nearly three centuries, uninterruptedly, it has produced liquorice made from pure Calabrese root — black, gummy, flavored — celebrated as among the finest in the world. It is part of Les Hénokiens, the association of family businesses with over 200 years of activity, and has received the Guggenheim Business & Culture Award; Poste Italiane has dedicated a stamp to it. In the historic family residence it preserves the Museo della Liquirizia 'Giorgio Amarelli', among the most visited museums in Southern Italy.
