Liquirizia di Calabria DOP is considered the world's finest licorice. The Glycyrrhiza glabra roots grow abundantly in the clay soil of the Tyrrhenian coast, developing a unique aroma and sweetness.
The Calabrese licorice tradition dates back to the 18th century, when the first concii (processing plants) transformed roots into pure black juice. The artisan process involves hot extraction and concentration into black paste.
It's enjoyed pure as sticks, as confetti, in liqueurs, and in cooking to flavor fish dishes and desserts.
