Fasjn La Mede - Festa della Fienagione a Sutrio

On Sunday, July 19, 2026, one of the most evocative and authentic celebrations in Friuli Venezia Giulia returns to the Carnia mountains: Fasjn la Mede, the hay-making festival held on the meadows of Mount Zoncolan in Sutrio. This event is far more than a simple celebration—it is a living tribute to one of the mountain's most characteristic trades, from grass cutting to the creation of large haystacks, an activity that for centuries represented the heart of local rural life. The festival takes on particular significance through its educational and intergenerational mission: groups of women from Sutrio dressed in traditional costumes, alongside men and children, recreate the gestures and techniques of work that was historically a predominantly female occupation, allowing new generations and visitors to understand and appreciate the hard work and dedication of those who lived in these mountains.
