Sagra dell'Acciuga (Anchovy Festival)

Monterosso al Mare, the largest and most enchanting village of Cinque Terre, dedicates a special celebration to one of its most precious gastronomic treasures: the anchovy. The Sagra dell'Acciuga, scheduled for June 20, 2026, is a unique opportunity to discover and taste the product that symbolizes this Ligurian coastal community, where the tradition of fishing and fish preservation has been passed down through generations. During the event, held in the historic centre of Monterosso al Mare with displays in the main piazzas and along the seafront promenade, the village comes alive with authentic flavours and a festive atmosphere that celebrates the unbreakable bond between the sea and local culture. Organized by the Municipality of Monterosso al Mare in collaboration with local fishermen and merchant associations, the festival transforms the characteristic streets of the village into a grand open-air table. This sagra represents a true journey into the heart of Ligurian gastronomy, where anchovies take centre stage in both traditional recipes passed down by fishing families and innovative interpretations by local chefs. Free tastings are offered from 11:00 to 22:00, featuring typical dishes such as marinated anchovies, pansotti with fish filling, stuffed squid, and the celebrated anchovy sauce for trofie pasta. The involvement of local businesses creates an immersive experience that allows visitors to understand the historical and economic importance of this product for Cinque Terre.
