Gran festa del capunsel

In the heart of the morainic hills of Mantua, Solferino prepares to celebrate one of its most authentic culinary traditions: the Gran Festa del Capunsel. This event, taking place from July 4-6, 2026, is much more than a simple food festival. It is a journey through the collective memory of a territory, a ritual that transforms the simplest ingredients into extraordinary dishes, capable of telling stories of resilience and peasant creativity.

Capunsel, the undisputed star of the festival, is a rustic pasta hand-modeled to resemble a small bread dumpling. Prepared with cheese, spices, and a touch of nutmeg, it is traditionally dressed with melted butter and sage: a simplicity that conceals an unmatched depth of flavor. During the three days of celebration, the town fills with the unmistakable aroma of freshly drained capunséi, while long tables under tent structures and in ancient courtyards come alive with voices, laughter, and conviviality.
