Festa della castagna (Chestnut Festival)

The Festa della Castagna in Agrate Brianza is a cherished autumn tradition spanning over forty years. Organized by the local CAI (Italian Alpine Club) branch, the festival enlivens Piazza Santa Maria and Via Ferrario with food stalls, market stands, and community gathering spots. Freshly roasted chestnuts served piping hot are the star of the show, alongside classic Italian treats such as crusty bread with salami, homemade cakes, hot tea, and spiced mulled wine (vin brulè). One of the most anticipated highlights is the unveiling of the 'Tooorta CAI'—a unique giant cake made with chestnuts, chestnut jam, marron glacé, carrots, and walnuts, which is publicly measured each year in an attempt to set a new length record. Musical entertainment, artisan stalls, and activities for children round out the program, preserving the warm, festive spirit of traditional Italian chestnut gatherings.
