Peperone di Voghera

The Peperone di Voghera is a distinctive vegetable of the Pavia plain, appreciated for its characteristic square shape and unmistakable appearance. It is a sweet pepper with thick, fleshy flesh, particularly suited both for fresh consumption and for processing. Cultivation in this area of Lombardy benefits from the favorable soil and climate conditions of the Pianura Padana, which guarantees excellent fruit quality.

Its organoleptic characteristics make it versatile in the kitchen: the meaty flesh and sweet flavor lend themselves both to raw preparations, in salads, and to cooking. It is traditionally used in mixed grilled vegetables, in soffritto bases for regional dishes, and in the preparation of preserves. The smooth skin and brilliant color, generally red or yellow when ripe, make it a visually appetizing ingredient.

Recognized as a Traditional Agri-food Product (PAT) of Lombardy, the Peperone di Voghera represents an excellence of local horticulture, the fruit of consolidated cultivation techniques in the tradition of the Pavia area.
