The Sagra du Taraddhru represents one of the most characteristic and authentic events in Salento, carrying forward a culinary tradition rooted in centuries of history. Every year, in the picturesque village of Castiglione d'Otranto, the festival's food stalls freely distribute the famous barley taralli, a local specialty with a distinctive dark color and unmistakable taste, prepared according to recipes passed down through generations. The event is inextricably linked to the Fiera di S. Maria Maddalena, one of the oldest fairs in Salento, established in 1752 by King Charles III of Bourbon. For centuries, this fair was the reference point for grain and cereal trading, a vital center of the region's commercial life. The Sagra du Taraddhru, held for approximately thirty years, continues this glorious tradition, transforming the village into a place of gathering and conviviality.
