Ferragosto at Santa Maria Navarrese is one of Sardinia's most evocative celebrations, where spirituality and popular tradition meet on the Nuoro coast. From August 13–15, 2026, the small village of Baunei comes alive with festivities honoring the Assumption of Mary—an event rooted in centuries of Marian devotion that continues to draw pilgrims and visitors from across the island. The celebration reaches its peak on Friday, August 14, when the faithful embark on a journey from Baunei to Santa Maria Navarrese along the enchanting 'Sa Contralba' path, followed by a procession carrying the Madonna statue to the port in solemn ceremony. The sea procession represents the most moving moment, where religious tradition and the landscape's natural beauty merge into an unforgettable experience. Organized by Fedales 1976 in collaboration with local parish communities, the event strikes a perfect balance between the sacred and the secular. Alongside religious ceremonies, the program features quality entertainment: from Brinca's concert to Sandro Murru's DJ set, and Piero Marras's midnight concert on Ferragosto night. All this is accompanied by traditional costumes and the distinctive sound of launeddas, Sardinia's iconic triple-reed pipes, which enliven every moment of the celebration.
