Festa della Nocciola (Hazelnut Festival)

The Festa della Nocciola in Raccuja celebrates the fruit that symbolizes the agricultural and cultural identity of this village nestled in the Nebrodi Mountains. For generations, hazelnut cultivation and harvesting have set the rhythm and social life of the local community; the event revives this deep connection to the land through a day filled with rural traditions and flavors. At the heart of the festival is a gastronomic trail winding through the village alleys, highlighting the versatility of hazelnuts in both savory and sweet recipes. Culinary highlights include hazelnut arancini, stuffed meat rolls (involtini), fried calamari with hazelnut crust, pizza, sandwiches with porchetta or mortadella paired with hazelnut pesto, as well as cannoli, crêpes filled with hazelnut cream, and grape-must mostarda sprinkled with crushed hazelnuts, all accompanied by sangria and traditional Sicilian liqueurs. The festive atmosphere is enhanced by stands featuring local producers, artisan craft exhibitions, live music, and street performances. Visitors can also take part in guided walks and urban trekking tours that lead through scenic hazelnut groves and Raccuja's historic landmarks, including the Branciforti Castle, the Silk Museum, and the Mother Church.
