Il Borgo natalizio di Chiusa (Klausen) is the traditional Advent market that welcomes visitors into the charming historic center of this South Tyrolean town. On weekends from late November through December, the village alleys and historic cellars turn into a timeless route illuminated by the soft glow of candles and lanterns. Inside rustic wooden huts and ancient cellars, local artisans and producers display traditional handcrafted goods, such as hand-carved wooden bowls and sculptures, felt slippers, jewelry, holiday decorations, and natural items from local mountain farms. The culinary offerings highlight authentic South Tyrolean flavors with krapfen, apple fritters, sweet shredded pancakes (Kaiserschmarrn), roasted almonds, and pretzels, paired with warming drinks like mulled wine and hot spiced apple cider. The atmosphere is brought to life by period melodies, choir performances, and brass ensembles. Completing the experience are family workshops, a living nativity scene winding through the village streets, and the evening rounds of the night watchman, who walks through town lighting the candles.
