Natale in Montagna (Christmas in the Mountains)

In the heart of the historic center of Castelrotto, 'Natale in montagna' (Kastelruther Bergweihnacht) comes alive—an evocative Christmas market that transforms the village's central square into a celebration of Alpe di Siusi traditions. Across the Advent weekends and selected holidays, local farmers, artisans, and innkeepers host charming stalls packed with regional specialties, all wrapped in a magical ambiance lit by lanterns and filled with live Christmas melodies. The market showcases an extensive selection of local handicrafts, featuring hand-carved wooden items, candles, holiday decorations, and cozy wool and felt creations. The festive experience is further elevated by the authentic flavors of South Tyrol: visitors can savor warm vin brulé (mulled wine), traditional Castelrotto krapfen, Christmas cookies, festive zelten fruitcake, stollen, and homemade jams. While the artisan and shopping stalls close in the late afternoon, the food and drink chalets remain open into the evening. Rounding out the event are a variety of family-friendly activities designed especially for children, including a nearby ice skating rink.
