The exhibition '80 Years of an Icon – The Exhibition' celebrates eighty years of Vespa with a rich showcase hosted at the Museo Piaggio in Pontedera. The exhibition reinterprets eight decades of history, culture, and society through images documenting the evolution of a vehicle that has become a global icon of Italian design, elegance, and technology — serving as a travel companion, a daily means of transport, and an enduring symbol of freedom. Curated by Giacomo Bretzel, the display contrasts a vast visual heritage from leading Italian and international archives (including the Archivio Storico Piaggio, Intesa Sanpaolo's Archivio Publifoto, Fondazione Alinari, Fondazione Pirelli, Magnum Photos, and private collections) with contemporary photographs captured by the curator among the youth and landscapes of Pontedera and the Pisa province. The exhibition offers a collective narrative through the lens of photography masters such as William Klein, Paola Agosti, Bruno Barbey, Seydou Keïta, and Federico Patellani, chronicling Vespa's presence in bustling cities, adventurous expeditions, film sets, and lifestyle magazines.
