Corsa delle Botti (The Barrel Race)

The Corsa delle Botti is one of the most significant events for the community of Costacciaro, serving as a cherished occasion to celebrate and pass down a heartfelt local tradition. The core of the festival is an exciting race featuring two large wooden barrels rolling around an axle fitted with a steering shaft. This unique contraption is pulled by teams of energetic young runners known as 'bottaioli'. Guiding and supporting each team are specific traditional figures: a head barrelier ('capo bottaiolo'), an innkeeper ('oste'), and a race director.
