Sagra dell'Ortolano

The Sagra dell'Ortolano returns to Balanzano to celebrate the arrival of summer with its 25th edition. From June 12-21, 2026, this small Perugian hamlet transforms into a stage of authentic flavors and rural traditions, where genuine Umbrian cuisine takes center stage. But who is the Ortolano? He is the symbol of Umbrian rural heritage: the farmer who dedicates himself to cultivating the orchards and lands of this region, transforming his harvests into genuine dishes that tell stories of family, passion, and respect for nature. The Festival celebrates this figure, guardian of ancient knowledge and a way of life rooted in the land. Every evening, starting at 7:30 PM, the food stalls open their doors to offer visitors the most authentic recipes of local tradition: tagliatelle with meat ragù, umbricelli with truffle, crispy porchetta, fresh cheese, and vegetables grown according to traditional methods. Each dish is prepared with dedication and passion by community volunteers, using locally-sourced ingredients. But Sagra dell'Ortolano is far more than just food: it is a complete experience that engages all the senses and welcomes every generation. After dinner, from 9:30 PM onward, the hamlet comes alive with live music from local artists and the chance to dance together, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere. Children can enjoy a dedicated play area, teenagers have their own pub, while adults and seniors relish the live music and convivial spirit. This event represents the beating heart of the Balanzano community, the fruit of commitment from the local Pro Loco association and countless volunteers who have dedicated their energy and passion for years to celebrating their hamlet and its roots.
