Orvieto Classico is one of Umbria's most representative white wines and a gem of Italian winemaking tradition. Originating from the hilly area surrounding Orvieto, this wine stands out for its ancient history: viticulture on the Orvieto cliff dates back centuries, as testified by continuous production through the ages. In 1971, it was officially recognized with a Controlled Denomination of Origin (DOC), which safeguards the quality and authenticity of the product.
The wine's grape varieties are primarily Trebbiano Toscano and other native varietals, cultivated on the tufaceous and limestone soils that characterize the region. The result is a white wine with a pale straw-yellow colour, delicate aromas reminiscent of white flowers and white-fleshed fruits, and a fresh, mineral flavour. Its balanced acidity and medium body make it elegant and easy to drink, with a pleasant aftertaste on the palate.
At the table, Orvieto Classico pairs beautifully with traditional regional dishes: it complements freshwater fish, fresh cheeses, light pasta dishes, and vegetable-based preparations perfectly. It is also an ideal wine to serve as an aperitif, to showcase its fresh and clean taste characteristics.
