Sagrantino di Montefalco

Sagrantino di Montefalco DOCG is an extraordinarily powerful red wine, produced exclusively from Sagrantino grapes in the territory of Montefalco and neighboring municipalities, in the heart of Umbria. It is one of the wines with the highest polyphenol content in the world.

The Sagrantino vine, native to Umbria, was used by Franciscan monks for sacramental wine (the name is believed to derive from "sacro," meaning sacred). The dry version, introduced in the 1970s, revolutionized Umbrian viticulture.

With a deep ruby color, almost impenetrable, it offers aromas of blackberries, stewed plums, spices, chocolate, and leather on the nose. On the palate it is powerful, with imposing tannins that require long aging. The Riserva requires 30 months of maturation.
