The Palio dell'Asino at Lissaro in Mestrino returns to transport visitors back in time with an evocative medieval historical reenactment that captures the essence of medieval Padua. Taking place on 27 and 28 June 2026 at Lissaro's Main Square, this event offers two unforgettable days of fascinating challenges that blend tradition, competition, spectacle, and period atmosphere. Saturday 27 June (from 3:00 PM) is dedicated to the disfida delle musse, a competition featuring cities from the ‹Terre e Castelli estensi› consortium competing in medieval skill and dexterity challenges. Sunday 28 June (from 2:00 PM) the absolute star becomes the Palio dell'asino—the most curious and entertaining horse race where Lissaro's local contrade (districts) compete in this unique event that mixes tradition, humour, and adrenaline. The festival perfectly combines historical entertainment with authentic conviviality. The entire area transforms into a medieval village with costumed performers, artisan stalls, wandering musicians, and animations that fully immerse visitors in period atmosphere. Children can participate in dedicated historical games, while adults will enjoy theatrical performances and demonstrations of ancient crafts. Both evenings conclude with an extraordinary culinary experience at the Taverna della Corte (opening from 7:00 PM), where guests can dine in an authentic setting with medieval-themed menus prepared using traditional recipes. The tavern's atmosphere, enhanced by historical decorations and live entertainment, masterfully completes the journey into the past.
