The Sagra delle Castagne e del Vin Durello marks its 91st edition in San Giovanni Ilarione, standing out as one of the most prominent autumn gatherings in the Val d'Alpone. Organized by the local Pro Loco, the festival brings the village center to life across Piazza della Chiesa, Piazza XXIV Maggio, and surrounding streets, honoring rural heritage and local gastronomy. At the heart of the culinary lineup are local chestnuts (marroni) and Lessini Durello DOC wine, paired with authentic peasant dishes such as polenta and scopeton (smoked herring). Food stands open in the evenings and also for Sunday lunch, inviting visitors to savor traditional flavors in a lively, welcoming atmosphere. The schedule features beloved local traditions and entertainment for all ages, including costume parades, photography exhibitions, children's workshops, and the eagerly awaited Palio del Maron. The celebration wraps up with vintage Vespa rallies, DJ sets, dancing, shop window awards, and a grand closing fireworks display.
