Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC is the most produced and beloved red wine of Abruzzo, obtained from the homonymous native grape variety cultivated on the hills between Majella and the Adriatic Sea. Not to be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which is a different Tuscan wine.
With an intense ruby-red color and violet reflections, it offers notes of cherry, blackberry, plum, sweet spices and a light violet note on the nose. On the palate it is soft, round, with velvety tannins and good structure.
It is a versatile and generous wine, perfect with arrosticini, pasta alla chitarra col ragù, grilled lamb and Abruzzese cheeses. Cerasuolo, the rosé version obtained through brief maceration, is the quintessential summer wine of Abruzzo.
