Sagra della Triglia e del Pesce Fritto (Red Mullet and Fried Fish Festival)

The Sagra della Triglia e del Pesce Fritto returns to Ortona in August, in the lovely Villa San Nicola district, as an unmissable event for lovers of authentic Abruzzese seafood cuisine. From August 7-10, 2026, four evenings celebrating the genuine flavours of the sea, where red mullet – the undisputed star of the Adriatic table – is transformed into traditional dishes prepared with skill and passion. The event showcases local gastronomic excellence with a varied menu: grilled red mullet, celebrated crispy fried fish, succulent meat skewers, and typical Abruzzese sweets. Among the specialities not to miss are nevole, delightfully sweet preparations made with honey and dried fruits that embody the sweetness of regional tradition. Each dish tells the story of knowledge passed down through generations of fishermen and cooks from the Costa dei Trabocchi. Beyond culinary delights, the festival offers a complete experience of entertainment and culture. Live cooking shows dedicated to traditional nevole and red mullet preparation techniques, accompanied by live music that sets a festive and engaging atmosphere. An exhibition of traditional fishing tools and implements completes the programme, testament to the richness of local artisanal and working traditions.
