Sagra del Peperone di Senise IGP (Senise Pepper Festival)

From August 9th to 11th, Senise comes alive with the 23rd edition of ‹U Strittul ru Zafaran›, a celebration that intertwines history, tradition, and gastronomy around its most precious treasure: the Peperone di Senise IGP. The event unfolds over three thematic days, from discovering cultural heritage to traditional games, culminating in a grand food and wine festival. An immersive journey into the heart of an ancient village where the distinctive red peppers dry between the houses, creating a unique and enchanting atmosphere. The Gastronomy Day on Monday, August 11th, represents the festival's highlight with the authentic Sagra del Peperone di Senise IGP. Starting at 8:00 PM from Piazzetta San Francesco, a gastronomic route will guide visitors through tastings, live performances, cooking shows, and the traditional and entertaining ‹nserta› competition. 1990s music and entertainment will animate the village streets, creating a festive and convivial atmosphere. Organized by the ASSA association in collaboration with the Senise Pepper Consortium and the Ethnographic Museum of the Senisese, this event is an extraordinary opportunity to discover the cultural roots of this small gem of Basilicata and taste one of Southern Italy's most renowned agrifood excellences.
