Strait of Messina Swordfish is caught with feluche, traditional boats equipped with a 25-meter antenna from which a spotter guides the harpooner below.
This millennia-old method, passed down from the Greeks, is still practiced between Scilla and Bagnara Calabra. The season runs from May to September.
The meat is prized, firm, and flavorful. It's prepared alla ghiotta (with tomato, capers, and olives), as involtini, or simply grilled with salmoriglio.
