La Giostra del Monaco is one of the most captivating highlights on Ferrara's cultural calendar, an immersive journey into the Middle Ages that transports visitors back more than five hundred years. For eleven lively days, from late August to early September 2026, the fortress rampart along Viale IV Novembre transforms into a bustling medieval settlement where history comes to life through authentic reenactments, enthralling shows, and chivalric traditions. The festival offers a rich and engaging experience for all ages: from the meticulously recreated medieval encampment portraying daily historical life, to thrilling armed combat demonstrations and traditional archery and crossbow tournaments. The vibrant atmosphere is heightened by strolling players, fire-eaters, period musicians, and flag-throwers.
