Bosco Mesola, a charming village in Emilia-Romagna, celebrates one of its most prized gastronomic treasures with the 24th Radicchio Festival, an unmissable event that blends culinary tradition, local heritage promotion, and family entertainment. From September 29 to October 5, 2026, the village streets will come alive around this precious vegetable, cultivated in the sandy soils shaped by the nearby Po river and transformed into a wide variety of gastronomic specialties ranging from appetizers to desserts. The 2026 edition takes on even greater significance thanks to the prestigious 'Excellence Festival' recognition awarded by EPLI – Italian Pro Loco Association, a badge that honors events capable of promoting local traditions, gastronomic quality, hospitality, and volunteer dedication in territorial promotion. The gastronomic stand is the beating heart of the event, where radicchio is the absolute star of a rich menu. Standout specialties include Carnaroli risotto with radicchio, cod crostini with radicchio, ricotta and radicchio-filled ravioli with butter and sage, handmade pasta with king prawns and radicchio, radicchio tart on Parmigiano Reggiano fondue, and radicchio salad with walnuts, pears, and Grana shavings. The offerings also include traditional dishes such as braised venison with polenta and braised cod with radicchio, finishing with ricotta gelato swirled with radicchio jam. Beyond the gastronomic experience, the festival offers a rich program of events and activities for all ages: live music performances and DJ sets, craft markets, exhibitions, guided tours through Gran Bosco della Mesola and visits to Castello Estense, sport fishing competitions, dog shows, amusement park rides, the traditional radicchio parade, and three highly anticipated lotteries that engage residents and visitors alike in a festive atmosphere. The event is organized by Pro Loco Bosco APS, thanks to the dedication of over one hundred volunteers who work with passion each year to promote the territory, its traditions, and its food and wine excellence.
