Festa di San Salvatore - Corsa Degli Scalzi (The Barefoot Race)

The Festa di San Salvatore and the traditional Corsa degli Scalzi take place in Cabras on September 5 and 6, 2026. This captivating historical and religious reenactment commemorates an event from 1619, when local villagers rescued the statue of the saint from Saracen raids. The rite is marked by the participation of hundreds of barefoot devotees clad in traditional white robes, known as 'is curridoris'. These runners tackle a dirt track of roughly seven kilometers to carry the effigy of San Salvatore from the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta to the rural village of San Salvatore di Sinis on Saturday morning, returning it to the town on Sunday evening. Alongside the thrilling barefoot race, the weekend features solemn religious ceremonies, parades and processions in traditional Sardinian dress, as well as festive entertainment for the entire community.
