I fuochi di San Martino (St. Martin's Fires)

On the night of November 11th, Predazzo transforms into a spectacular display of fire and tradition. The Fuochi di San Martino represents a fascinating celebration that unites the veneration of the patron saint with the deep roots of the Regola Feudale, one of Trentino's most ancient institutions. At 8 PM sharp, when darkness envelops the mountains, grand bonfires suddenly ignite on the slopes of the surrounding peaks: it is the competition between the city districts vying for the title of the highest flame, a challenge that renews community spirit every year. But the Fuochi di San Martino are not mere fires. The five stacks of fir, larch, and pine are true works of art: extravagant sculptures and artistic compositions, known locally as 'ase', that reflect the creativity and ingenuity of the district communities. As flames lick the night sky, the mountain fills with ancient sounds: the ringing of cowbells, the guttural tones of cow and goat horns echoing ancestral rituals.
