Sagra della Val Sarentino (Val Sarentino Festival)

The Sagra della Val Sarentino is one of the most anticipated autumn events in South Tyrol, a celebration that proudly honours the traditions and culture of the valley. Every first weekend in September, the municipality of Sarentino transforms into a stage for popular festivities where history, folklore and local gastronomy intertwine in an unforgettable weekend. In 2026, from September 5-7, the festival promises to renew this extraordinary tradition with spectacular processions, live music and participation from guests throughout the region. The programme is rich and engaging: Saturday opens with processions and the inaugural concert of the local brass band, followed by an evocative torchlit procession through Sarentino's centre. Sunday represents the event's highlight with a religious procession to the San Cipriano chapel and the grand folklore parade at 2:00 PM, featuring brass bands, groups in traditional costumes, allegorical floats and dancers in a riot of authentic colours and sounds. Throughout the weekend, numerous food stalls and gastronomic stands showcase the culinary specialties and genuine flavours of Val Sarentino. A distinctive feature of the festival is the traditional clothing worn by the local community: men proudly display typical loden trousers, embroidered leather belts (Fatsch) and characteristic hats, creating an atmosphere of authentic Alpine folklore. Monday appropriately concludes the festival with the traditional livestock market, the largest in South Tyrol, representing a bridge between the valley's past and present.
