Festa della Brace e del Sombrero

The 23rd edition of the Festa della Brace e del Sombrero returns to Bientina to celebrate Tuscan culinary traditions with a touch of originality that has captivated visitors for over two decades. Organized by the Contrada Centro Storico, the event takes place at the Campo Sportivo Comunale in via Leonardo da Vinci on June 13, 14, 19, 20, and 21, 2026, keeping alive the Palio di Bientina tradition and confirming itself as an unmissable appointment for lovers of authentic Tuscan cuisine. The festival's name already hints at the gastronomic specialties you'll find: brace (grilled meats with smoky flavors) and especially sombreros—characteristic pasta parcels filled with ricotta and spinach, named after the famous Mexican hat. A fascinating fusion of local tradition and culinary creativity makes this festival truly unique. The menu offers a rich variety of dishes to satisfy every palate and preference. Sombreros, the undisputed star of the festival, come in three irresistible versions: with ragù, in pink sauce, or with tomato. But the gastronomic offerings don't stop there: penne pasta in three variants, meats grilled over open flames, crispy fried squid and prawns, veal steak, tagliata with arugula and Parmigiano Reggiano, and the famous one-kilogram bistecca alla fiorentina. The selection is completed with smoked grilled sausages, appetizing seasonal vegetable sides, and traditional Tuscan desserts like torta del nonno and other delights. A special evening is Friday, June 19, dedicated to the Merchants' Festival with a fixed menu for just 20 euros, including sombreros (with ragù or pink sauce), fried squid and prawns or roasted pork, fresh salad, and house dessert. Entry to the festival is completely free with no reservations needed—simply arrive at the food stands from 8:00 PM onwards to immerse yourself in an authentic, convivial atmosphere where flames crackle and the aromas of traditional cooking create the magic of a true Tuscan celebration.
