Festa Storica di Badia a Pacciana (Historical Festival of Badia a Pacciana)

The Festa Storica di Badia a Pacciana, located on the outskirts of Pistoia, returns from September 5 to 13, 2026, to transport the ancient abbey and the entire village back to the atmosphere of the 14th century. Organized by the Parish of Santa Maria Assunta di Badia a Pacciana, the event re-enacts key medieval events in Pistoia's history, notably the capture of Pistoia and the subsequent truce between Abbot Ormanno Tedici and Castruccio Castracani. The packed program seamlessly combines faithful historical re-enactments with delicious Tuscan gastronomy. Throughout the various evenings, visitors can savor traditional specialties such as 'pasta alla boscaiola', 'estrusca' (pork loin), 'bomboloni' (Italian doughnuts), and 'migliacci'. One of the most atmospheric events is the medieval dinner hosted in the abbey's cloister, where participants can dine in period costume while tasting dishes inspired by ancient historical recipes. The highlight of the festival is the grand historical parade. Hundreds of participants in medieval attire, flag-wavers, and historical groups march through the village streets, culminating in a theatrical performance of the historic truce, offering visitors and locals a unique experience of community and shared heritage.
