The 12th edition of the Sagra dell'Ortica returns to Sambuca Val di Pesa, in the heart of the Florence Chianti region, to celebrate one of the most distinctive ingredients of local gastronomic tradition. On June 19, 20, and 21, this small hamlet in the municipality of Tavarnelle Val di Pesa transforms into a stage of authentic flavors, where nettles—a wild plant that grows abundantly along the banks of the Pesa River and in the surrounding woodlands—becomes the star ingredient of Chianti cuisine. The three-day event is packed with culinary offerings and entertainment, featuring the traditional neighborhood festival with exciting competitions, live performances, and outdoor activities. Gastronomic stands open every evening from 7:00 PM, while Saturday and Sunday also offer lunch service from noon, allowing visitors to savor expertly prepared nettle dishes: mouth-watering pasta courses like pappardelle and tagliatelle with nettles, traditional soups, delicate gnocchi, ravioli filled with this precious ingredient, crispy fried specialties, and locally-inspired creations prepared with creativity. Beyond the food, the Rioni Bar completes the offering with aperitifs, artisanal gelato, gourmet sandwiches, typical Tuscan sweets, and refreshments, creating a festive and welcoming atmosphere. The festival is enhanced by live entertainment with local performers and musicians who animate the evenings, ensuring fun for the whole family. Easily accessible from the Florence-Siena expressway, Sambuca Val di Pesa awaits you for an authentic immersion into the flavors of the territory, where tradition, community, and culinary excellence converge.
