Sagra della Ciliegia

The Sagra della Ciliegia of Lari represents one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the Tuscan gastronomic scene, with a tradition dating back to 1957. Now in its 68th edition, this festival celebrates the prized Ciliegia di Lari, a native variety characterized by an intense red color, particularly sweet flavor, and excellent consistency. The fruit, cultivated in the territory of the ancient municipality of Lari and surrounding areas, features 19 different varieties, each with its own distinctive qualities.

During the festival, held on the weekends of May 30-31 and June 1-2, 6-7, visitors will be able to taste and purchase delicious cherries directly from the dedicated market, along with derived products such as artisanal jams. Alongside the gastronomic stands, which open for dinner from 7:30 PM and on Sundays also for lunch from 12:30 PM, numerous side events are planned: artistic performances, exhibitions, cooking shows, live music, and the celebrated Aperitifs under the Castle with DJ sets.

The occasion is also perfect for discovering the charming medieval village of Lari, located on the road connecting Pisa to Volterra. The historic center, which reached great importance during Medici rule, preserves the magnificent Castello dei Vicari, a masterpiece of medieval architecture renovated during the Renaissance. To facilitate visitors, a shuttle bus service will be active on the main festival days.
