On Sunday, October 25, 2026, the village of Caprigliola in the municipality of Aulla, Lunigiana, hosts the traditional Castagnata in Piazza. The festivities begin at 2:00 PM, bringing the historic center to life with the rich flavors and aromas of autumn. At the food stands, visitors can savor classic roasted chestnuts ('mondine') and 'cian' (chestnut flour pancakes, also known as necci elsewhere), paired with warming mulled wine. Market stalls lining the village streets offer local delicacies, including honey, cured meats, vegetables, jams, and traditional 'scherpade'—the savory vegetable pies typical of lower Lunigiana. For younger guests aged 7 to 11, the schedule features 'Bosco d'Autunno', a guided woodland excursion focused on chestnut gathering (fee applies), with the option to stay for lunch at the festival.
