Sagra della Pupporina e del Tordello (Pupporina and Tordello Festival)

Every August without fail, the traditional Sagra della Pupporina e del Tordello returns to Bozzano, a hamlet of Massarosa in the province of Lucca, celebrating the authentic flavors of Tuscany. Now in its 52nd edition, this gastronomic festival runs throughout the month from August 1-15, 2026, with evening hours starting at 7:30 PM in the picturesque Parco Giuseppe del Soldato. This event is an unmissable opportunity to rediscover recipes passed down through generations, where each dish tells stories of tradition and culinary dedication. The undisputed star of the festival is the pupporina, a round-shaped sweet prepared according to ancient recipes by local women. Flour, eggs, sugar, butter, and anise seeds come together in a simple yet fascinating recipe, created in honor of Saint Bartholomew. Alongside this sweet specialty, the tordello (or tortello) fills plates with its delicious filling of ground meat, eggs, and aromatic herbs, carrying with it the culinary heritage of the entire Tuscan region. Beyond these main specialties, the festival offers a rich menu spanning traditional land and sea dishes, ensuring choices for every palate. The evenings are completed by a lively entertainment program featuring orchestras, dancing, tombola games, and tombolone, transforming the celebration into a convivial occasion where food, music, and fun come together.
