Sagra di Sant'Anna (Sant'Anna Festival)

Nestled among the picturesque streets of Forno, a hamlet in the municipality of Massa, the traditional Sagra di Sant'Anna returns, an event with roots in ancient pagan festivities later Christianized. From July 17–26, 2026, this small village perched on the slopes of the Apuan Alps comes alive each evening with authentic flavors of local cuisine and the convivial atmosphere typical of Tuscan festivals. Born from the ancient tradition of transhumance when shepherds would stop in settlements with their flocks, the festival honors Sant'Anna, mother of the Madonna, celebrated with a dedicated chapel at the village entrance. This occasion showcases Fornese cuisine with signature dishes such as tordelli fornesi (traditional filled pasta), capra alla cavatora (braised goat prepared according to local tradition), and stinco alla santese (Santese-style braised shank), specialties that embody the gastronomic heritage of the region. Each evening from 7:00 PM to midnight, the festival invites you on a journey through authentic Tuscan flavors. After dinner, the celebration transforms into an evening of dancing with live music that engages the entire community.
