Festa della Desmontegada (Alpine Cattle Descent Festival)

In Selva di Cadore, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Val Fiorentina, the 14th edition of the traditional Festa della Desmontegada takes place. This festival celebrates the ancient ritual of transhumance—the return of livestock from high-altitude mountain pastures down to the valley at the end of summer. The highlight of the celebration is the picturesque parade of festive, flower-adorned cattle, accompanied along the route by farmers and herdsmen dressed in traditional folk attire. In the event village set up at Santa Fosca, visitors can enjoy food stalls serving authentic local cuisine, craft and traditional agro-food markets, folkloric dance performances, and live musical entertainment.
