Palio del Vecchio Mercato a Montebelluna (Old Market Palio)

The Palio del Vecchio Mercato of Montebelluna returns for its 36th edition from September 1-7, 2026, transforming the streets of this Venetian city into a captivating journey through time. This unique event celebrates the ancient merchant route that climbed from the plains toward the castle on the Rive, keeping alive a tradition deeply rooted in local history. The eleven city districts compete in tests of strength and endurance, pushing carts laden with goods exceeding 380 kg along a challenging 2 km uphill course, in a reenactment that blends competition, tradition, and spectacle. The festival offers far more than simple races: the entire week comes alive with historical reenactments, musical and cultural performances engaging residents and visitors alike. Among this edition's notable guests are personalities like Paolo Belli, while comedian Gianluca Impastato will enliven the Damigelle evening. Wine nights further enrich the program, creating a festive and convivial atmosphere. Completing the experience, a scenic Ferris wheel will be installed in front of the former Pretura, offering extraordinary views of the city. The full program includes period costume parades on September 1-7, male district races (September 3-4) and female races (September 5-6), with the Palio finale on September 7. Evening shows begin at 9:00 PM in the main square, while food and wine activities continue until midnight on weekdays and 1:00 AM on weekends. For the first time, the Palio will reach Treviso communities worldwide through live streaming on Antenna Tre and official digital channels, allowing everyone to follow the excitement of the races and performances. Banners created by local artists await the winning teams of both the male and female Palio, confirming how this event perfectly balances sporting competition with shared cultural heritage.
