Sagra della castagna e della patata (Chestnut and Potato Festival)

The Sagra della Castagna e della Patata takes place in the historic center of Trevico, in the Baronia area of Irpinia. Known as the highest village in Campania thanks to its perch at over 1,000 meters above sea level, the town honors two local delicacies officially recognized as Traditional Agri-Food Products (PAT): the Trevico chestnut and potato. Throughout the event, food stalls lining the village alleys serve up rustic culinary traditions and beloved family recipes. Highlights include handmade gnocchi, hearty peasant soups, baked potatoes, and roast chestnuts, alongside other regional specialties such as Trevico pork soffritto, cave-aged prosciutto, grilled melted caciocavallo impiccato cheese, and wild boar stew—all paired with traditional autumn sweets and local Irpinia wines. Folk music performances and street artists enliven the mountain streets, creating a festive, welcoming atmosphere dedicated to celebrating the community's agricultural roots and rural heritage.
