Sagra del Tortello

The Maremma region of Grosseto is preparing to celebrate one of its most iconic dishes: the 52nd edition of the Sagra del Tortello returns to Poggioferro, in the municipality of Scansano. A flagship event on Tuscany's food and wine calendar that, every second weekend of May, brings together traditional cuisine enthusiasts and food lovers from across the region. This year the festival spans four festive days, from noon through dinner service, with the star of the show being the typical Maremma tortello: a masterpiece of fresh pasta hand-rolled with a traditional rolling pin, filled with veal, chard, and ricotta, served with generous meat ragù or butter and sage sauces. But the Sagra del Tortello is more than just a culinary celebration: it represents the beating heart of Scansano's community, a moment when the entire village comes together to share its gastronomic heritage. Alongside the main attraction, visitors can enjoy grilled meats, wild boar in hunter's sauce, and sausages with beans, all accompanied by the renowned Morellino di Scansano wine, which perfectly complements these robust and flavorful dishes. The evenings become moments of conviviality and entertainment, with live music performances that keep the festive atmosphere alive late into the night.
