Sagra della Lumaca e della Cucina Maremmana (Snail Festival and Maremma Cuisine)

The Sagra della Lumaca e della Cucina Maremmana returns to Capalbio, an unmissable event for lovers of Tuscan gastronomy. Now in its 43rd edition, the festival takes place from July 20–26 at Circolo Il Mare in Chiarone Scalo, offering seven evenings celebrating the authentic flavors of Maremma. Food stalls open each evening at 7:30 PM, welcoming visitors eager to experience traditional regional cuisine. Snails are the undisputed star of this celebration, prepared in multiple ways: as a rich and satisfying pasta sauce, or fried until crispy and delicious. But the festival offers much more: visitors can sample celebrated Maremma tortelli with meat or wild boar ragù, grilled meat prepared according to local recipes, smoked rosticciana, acquacotta (a humble yet flavorful vegetable soup), and traditional fagioli al fiasco (beans cooked in a flask). A perfect opportunity to discover or rediscover the gastronomic treasures of the Tuscan Maremma, surrounded by a festive and welcoming atmosphere. The Sagra della Lumaca represents one of the region's most authentic celebrations, where popular cuisine meets conviviality.
